Christmas Markets in Hebburn
Hebburn has no Christmas market of its own, but the Metro puts several within easy reach: Newcastle's market from 19 November 2026, a twilight market at Hedworth Hall on 10 December, and Jarrow Hall's annual fayre.
Hebburn does not hold a Christmas market of its own, and it is better to say so up front than to send anyone looking for chalets on Station Road. What the town does have is a Metro station on the green line, which runs straight to Newcastle in one direction and South Shields in the other, with Jarrow and Bede in between. That puts four genuine Christmas markets and fairs within a short, cheap trip.
This guide sets out what is confirmed for 2026, what usually happens, and what has not been announced yet.
Newcastle Christmas Market
The biggest market in the region is a straight run on the Metro from Hebburn to Monument, with no change needed.
Newcastle Christmas Market runs from Thursday 19 November to Wednesday 23 December 2026, according to the city-centre business partnership NE1. It spreads along Grey Street, Grainger Street, around Grey's Monument and onto Nelson Street, with more than 70 traders, most of them based within 20 miles of the city centre. The Christmas Village returns to Old Eldon Square with a carousel, a Ferris wheel and Santa Stories, and the city's lights switch-on is on Thursday 12 November.
Daily opening hours and the full trader list had not been published at the time of writing, so check newcastleschristmas.com before you go.
Best for:
Best for: a full afternoon of browsing. Go on a weekday if you can, since December Saturdays around the Monument are very busy.
Hedworth Hall Twilight Christmas Market, South Shields
A smaller, evening option at the other end of the line. The Twilight Christmas Market at Hedworth Hall on Dean Road in Westoe is listed by its organiser for Thursday 10 December 2026, 5pm to 9pm, with free entry. The listing promises seasonal stalls, food and drink, and mediums and tarot readers alongside the gift tables.
Hedworth Hall is a Victorian assembly hall that now trades as a pub and restaurant, so there is somewhere warm to sit down afterwards. The details come from the organiser's own event listing, so confirm with the venue nearer the time.
Best for:
Best for: a midweek evening out that combines a bit of present shopping with tea or a drink.
Jarrow Hall Christmas Fayre
The closest of the lot. Jarrow Hall on Church Bank, the Anglo-Saxon farm and Bede museum, holds an indoor Christmas fayre each year, and Bede Metro station is two stops from Hebburn.
The fayre usually takes place over the last weekend of November. In 2025 it ran on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 November, 10am to 4pm, with free entry and every stall indoors. Jarrow Hall had not announced its 2026 dates at the time of writing, so check its website or social pages before planning around it.
Best for:
Best for: families. The fayre sits alongside the farm and museum, so there is something for children who have had enough of stalls.
South Shields Market
South Shields Market trades every Friday and Saturday in the Market Place outside The Word, about a fifteen-minute Metro ride from Hebburn. Since July 2026 the Saturday market has been run by independent operator Local Heroes as a council pilot that continues to the end of the year, trading 9am to 3pm, with local producers and street food alongside the regular stallholders.
The council has put on extra festive Saturday markets here in previous Decembers. Nothing has been announced for 2026 yet, so treat the Saturday market as the reliable option and check South Tyneside Council's Christmas page for anything extra.
Baltic Square, Gateshead
The Urban Park Christmas Market has run at Baltic Square on Gateshead Quayside over several November and December weekends in recent years, with food, drink, craft and gift stalls and a licensed bar. Its published listing does not yet carry 2026 dates, so check with the organiser before making the trip. Gateshead Metro station is a short walk from the Quayside.
Christmas shopping in Hebburn itself
For everyday present shopping, Mountbatten Shopping Centre on Station Road is the town-centre option. Local Heroes, the operator now running the South Shields Saturday market, has run pop-up food markets in Hebburn town centre before, but the council's listing for the Hebburn market currently shows no dates scheduled.
Hebburn Central on Glen Street has hosted festive workshops, such as Christmas wreath-making, in past years, and is worth watching on the council's events pages.
Hebburn's Christmas lights switch-on has traditionally taken place at Fountains Park on Station Road on a weekday evening in late November, with local school choirs and music. The 2026 date has not been announced.
